As previously mentioned, the faculty of creative and committed teachers are clearly one of the elements that makes Endeavor Charter School shine. In our ongoing quest to show the many ways our community supports the work of the Foundaton, we caught up with Sarah McConnell this week to get her perspectives as an Endeavor teacher.
How long have you been part of the Endeavor Family?
My oldest son won the lottery and entered Endeavor as part of the inaugural First Grade class. We were thrilled to have gotten in to such a unique and excellent school. My daughter did not get into Endeavor until her Second Grade year, in 2010. There was a very noticeable difference in her First Grade experience compared with her brother’s. On his fifth birthday, my youngest son started counting down the days until he could come here for Kindergarten.
He was beyond excited to finally get to come to school here this year.
How are you involved in the school?
My husband and I have volunteered for lunch duty, chaperoning field trips, and helping maintain the building and grounds since the school opened. One of the qualities that makes Endeavor so special is the level of involvement parents have and the way that parents are always welcome in the school.
As a former Wake County teacher and private tutor, I have personal experience with all different kinds of schools in Wake County—regular public schools, magnet schools, Montessori schools, private schools and other charter schools. There is no school like Endeavor in Wake County. I feel so fortunate to be a teacher here.
Why do you think it’s important to contribute to the Foundation?
Endeavor is a place where every child is challenged at his or her own level, where teachers build their lessons on a research-based foundation, and where students have incredible continuity not only in their academic growth from year to year, but also in their peer relationships.
My husband and I donated to the Foundation during the Home for the Pride campaign because we could tell from the very first day of school in 2008 that Endeavor was going to be a school like no other in Wake County. We will be donating again because our own children are benefitting from Endeavor, but also because we want this school to continue to be here for Wake County students for years to come, long after our own children have graduated and moved on.

Thank you, Sarah, for all that you do! And thanks to all our other dedicated teachers that make the difference at Endeavor.
Please continue our strong legacy of support by contributing to the Capital Campaign today. Every contribution takes us one step closer to having a permanent home for Endeavor.
